5Glass vacuum -- like life -- a matter of perspectiveMay 10, 2009

Nothing -- NOTHING -- beats the thermal performance of a double-walled, glass-vacuum Dewar flask -- the technical term for a Thermos bottle. It's glass -- remember glass is brittle. You get the best thermal performance in return for taking care with handling. I had demonstrated to me once that the bottles are weak in the long direction. I had a thermos full of hot tea lying on the floor of my car, and I went over a hard bump, and the thermos bottle shattered. Now, I carry the bottle always upright, in a backpack. I for one am pleased that Thermos still makes these. One reviewer is correct -- the weak link in this system is the plastic shell, and the gasket seal between the mouth of the glass bottle and the plastic shell. Since the plastic is flexible, too much pressure on the top can cause the gasket to distort resulting in leaks. Too little pressure, and it leaks. So it can take a little practice to get it right. Having had a number of these, I did encounter a couple where the gasket was misshapen, rendering the item useless for all but standing in the corner. This may have been the case with the negative reviewer. For me, thermal performance is king, and I put up with breaking two of these a year in order to have the pleasure the other 220 days or so out of a year, enjoying my tea exactly the way I like it, ALL DAY whenever I like it.

For those for whom caring for glass in the real world is too much trouble, that's why steel containers are made. With about half the thermal performance of glass, they provide a lesser service for greater flexibility in handling. Likewise, the steel shell is less subject to deformation, and so is better able to make a seal that will handle all attitudes.

4The hotter the betterApr 08, 2008

Bought for a gift for mom to replace broken one. She likes her coffee very hot and she swears by this product. I've bought her different brands and she says this is the hottest one. Good value, and mom is happy. All is good....

5Great thermos, buy it!!!!!Apr 11, 2011

Is your stainless coffee thermos tasting flat, tired and vaguely acrid? Mine too. I switched to this glass lined thermos and my coffe is now fresh and tasty. Great design + construction to boot.

2don't buyMar 18, 2008
By M. Young "M.Young"
I bought this at the grocery store. It works great for cold stuff, but hot coffee leaks badly when the thermos is turned on its side of upside down (the steam pressure causes the leaks).

If you'll always have it upright, it's great at keeping stuff hot/cold, and worth buying for the low price. But if you need something that has a good seal, this isn't it.

2Already threw them awayNov 15, 2011
By Andrew Weinstein
I ordered two, and one was missing a cup, but I let it slide. I was expecting these to perform as well as all the other thermos glass lined bottles I have used in the past. My guess is that these are a knock off and not the real deal. They do not hold heat long. I could tell even from the first cup that the hot bite of coffee was missing. Yes I preheated with boiling water...they look cheap and plastic-y and that's about how they perform. Buy the more expensive kind and get what you want out of a thermos. This one doesn't measure up.
